Welcome to Barber County Development (BCD)
Barber County Development (BCD) is the economic development organization for Barber County, Kansas. We are dedicated to fostering growth and opportunity by assisting businesses, supporting our local community and workforce, and facilitating industrial and housing development across the county.
Location: Barber County (pop. 4,860) is known as the "Gateway to the Gyp Hills,” an area famous for its beautiful red buttes, deep canyons, and vast rangelands. Medicine Lodge, Kansas, the county seat (pop. 2,100), is ideally situated at the crossroads of US HWY 281 and US HWY 160. Each city in the county is within thirty miles of the county seat, connected by county roads that traverse flourishing rural land. Kiowa lies on the main BNSF railway, and Medicine Lodge connects via a shortline, linking local industry and agriculture to national freight markets.
